Solar Power Cost

There are quite a few factors to take into account when we talk about solar power cost.

Naturally, we will want to know how much it will cost for the complete solar power installation - but that will depend upon several different factors.

If you intend to purchase your system outright, then of course your solar power cost is going to be many times higher than if you tackle this as a do it yourself project. Let me just say right now that unless you are simply rich, have more money than you will ever need or you are horribly clutzy and\or lazy - there is really no reason why you can't do this yourself. It takes no special tools or training; and there are fully illustrated guides and programs that will walk you through "going solar" step by step.

As discussed on the last page, solar power cost will also be determined by how much of your power you want to draw from solar energy. If you just want to start slow - say your hot water heater or your lighting - then your solar power cost will be much lower than if you want to go "whole house" right off the bat.

And as we also saw on the last page; your actual geographical location and the average daily hours of full sunlight will determine how large of a solar panel array you will need to install in order to generate the required amount of electricity.

But as we discuss solar power cost; let's not forget that the cost of constructing your solar panel array is a one time cost; and that every single month during which you pay a smaller electric bill (or no electric bill), then you recoup some of the solar power cost that you incurred that one time.

On top of that; many power companies - and most states - offer incentives for installing "green" or renewable types of power generating systems. There are probably even tax deductions that you can claim at the end of every year; just for incurring that one-time solar energy cost.

Solar power cost is a "moving target" until you have decided how much solar power you need versus conventional sources; and whether you want to pay a "professional installer" tens of thousands of dollars to do for you what you can do yourself for two or three hundred dollars. You also have to take into account your individual situation - average hours of daylight, power requirements and available incentives - before you can determine your actual solar power cost.
